DOES UNITED NATIONS BECAME A SPINELESS ORGANIZATION?

  THE INEFFICIENCY OF UNITED NATIONS

INTRODUCTION

                     An organization which is formed by several dominating countries in the world to tackle the global issues in the aftermath of World War 2 is the organization of UNITED NATIONS (UN). Do you think that UN is functioning independently on its own? The challenges faced by the UN in resolving global issues and its inefficiencies are listed below from various perspectives.

PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES

• Be a connection medium between the member countries
• Act as a neutral medium in any disputes arising between the countries
• Monitors various other issues such as Climatic change, Child empowerment, Healthcare, Women empowerment, Poverty etc which are taken care by its co organizations
• Its co organizations include UNICEF, UNESCO, WHO etc

CHALLENGES FACED

                  As we mentioned above, the main objective of the UN is to be an intermediate between the countries. But what is resisting it from doing its duty accordingly? It's the differences among the voices of different nations. But it is obvious right! Every country have their own opinion and they have the rights to say it in the global stage. So the final evaluation should be made by voting. The opinion which secures the maximum votes should be taken as the voice of the UN right? But there arises the problem. The members of the security council such as USA, UK, Russia, China and France enjoys an extra privilege called VETO. If all the other countries makes a decision with majority, this VETO power can quash the decision single handedly. So its a shear dominance of the western world explicitly.

OTHER CHALLENGES

• The UN has no proper funding
• It does not have an army of its own
• The VETO power is making UN an organization in favor of the western world
• The resolutions made by UN are not strictly followed by the members

CONCLUSION

           " A GOOD ORGANIZATION WITH BAD EXECUTIONS" is the one line description of the working of the UN. Owing to the above challenges the UN has literally became spineless in taking major decisions. If it overcomes them effectively, certainly UN is going to be the most prominent organization for the human race. Hope it will........
