DEMOCRACY A BOON OR BANE?
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Me as an Indian citizen feels always proud that my country is purely built on democratic lines. From the old age era to the present day, the Indian subcontinent has always been a land of people's rule. Even though monopoly, colonization had been a vast part of Indian history, they are periodically thrown away at times when it crosses certain threshold limits. The country which is aptly suitable for democracy due to its unmatchable variety of demography in the world has started to raise serious questions on democracy. Let's have a look on it.....
ROOT CAUSE OF DEMOCRACY
The Indian freedom fighters do not want the country to become monopoly once again. So they believed that people will take up the responsibility by voting their representatives to power. This system of administration is aimed to fulfill the following outcomes....
- People will be watching the five years performance of the rulers and they decide whether to keep them or throw away for the next term.
- The federal system or decentralization of powers will resist the wrong policies of the rulers.
- The complex and tedious approval system in Government projects will reduce corruption and misleading of public revenue.
- Democracy will make every sections of the country fulfilled and satisfied with the administrative structure of the nation.
- Most people are showing their reluctance to vote, thinking that their vote has no power to change anything in the country. And also the inertia of voting for new faces and voting for the same bipolar parties thinking the new faces are just for namesake and they cannot win elections.
- Instead of resisting wrong policies, the federal system had became a cave for unfair politicians, which makes the politics for the good people had became impossible. Now the good policies or laws cannot survive in the federal system as it can be easily ignored in the name of federal rights.
- In spite of having such complex procedures for approval of Government projects, India is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Only the fair projects are facing issues and challenges with this complex approval procedures.
- Saddest of all, none of the sections of the society are completely happy that they are enjoying the power to decide their ruler. Literally everyone has the notion that they have zero power in changing their government, thinking the common people has nothing to do with it.
WAY FORWARD
Some serious changes in the constitution and the people's mindset to be brought as soon as possible to enjoy the real goals of democracy. Until then, DEMOCRACY will only be present as a phrase in the Indian constitution nor in the real practice.........
